Regulations for the Disposal of Waste

Florida boaters must comply with the US Coast Guard regulations regarding marine sanitation devices and the US Environmental Protection Agency regulations regarding areas that are prohibited from discharging sewage (treated or untreated).

Human Waste (Vessel Sewage)

The term “vessel sewage” refers to human waste. Florida law prohibits the discharge of raw sewage from any vessel, including houseboats or floating structures. An approved sewage pump-out facility must be used to dispose of any waste generated by a Type III marine sanitation device.
