Our story
Started on Florida water
Take My Boat Test is based in Fort Walton Beach, on Florida's Emerald Coast. Our founder grew up around these waterways and saw the same thing every season: people heading out with no real safety knowledge, not because they didn't care, but because getting certified was a confusing, tedious errand nobody wanted to start.
So we built the course we wished existed — fully online, state-approved, and written to be understood rather than endured. You can take it on a phone at the dock, finish it across a few sittings, and walk away genuinely knowing what the buoys mean and what to do when the weather turns.
Why accreditation matters

Not every online boating course meets the same standard. Ours is accredited by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and approved by the agencies that actually issue the credential — the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the California Division of Boating and Waterways. That is the whole reason this company exists. A large share of boating fatalities involve an operator who never took a formal safety course, and the material that would have helped is not complicated — it is navigation rules and right-of-way, what equipment has to be aboard, how to read the water and the weather, what to do in an emergency, and where the line is on alcohol.
